Hello, this is Okada, manager of Sloth Cafe.
Did you know that April 10th is “Siblings Day”?
You may have heard the term “sibling child” (kyōdaiji) — this refers to children who grow up alongside a brother or sister with a disability or chronic illness.
Since 2009, I’ve been running a volunteer support group for these children and their families called Brave Kids (@bravekids2009).
🧒 The Word “Young Carer” Is Becoming More Familiar
In recent years, terms like “young carer” have come into wider use.
This refers to children who take on caregiving responsibilities at home — including for siblings, parents, or grandparents — on a daily basis.
※ Please note that not all sibling children take on caregiving roles. Every family situation is different.
Young carers are children who take on tasks usually expected of adults.
Some give up their time, their dreams, or even their future plans.
Some feel isolated, with no one to talk to. That is the reality many face.
🌿 To All of You Who Are Doing Your Best
Children who quietly and consistently support their families often go unnoticed.
I hope we can build a society that looks upon them with more kindness and understanding.

He looked absolutely adorable and full of excitement 😊
