Hello, this is Okada, the manager of Sloth Cafe.
Today (April 22, 2025), we held our very first tea gathering for mothers raising children with disabilities, called “Sloth FIKA”🌿 at Sloth Cafe. ※FIKA is a Swedish custom that means enjoying coffee or tea while chatting in a relaxed setting.
Although many participants met for the first time, we were happy to welcome 8 mothers raising children from infants to 19 years old, along with 3 children.
We began with a relaxing lunch featuring our popular spice curry.
After that, everyone introduced themselves briefly (2 minutes each), and then we took turns picking a “discussion theme” from a draw box, based on topics submitted in advance.
As the mother of the oldest child among the group, I was able to share our family’s experiences while responding to each theme.

- Post-graduation paths and future planning
- How to utilize welfare services
- Diving experiences for people with disabilities 🌊
- Traveling by airplane with a wheelchair ✈️
- Creative rehabilitation ideas, and more…
Each topic sparked enthusiastic conversation, with many saying, “We could have talked about this so much more!” Several participants even commented that we simply didn’t have enough time!
But most of all, I was truly happy to hear that everyone was able to take home at least one helpful tip or piece of information.
We hope to host a second session soon in the same friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
