News from the Handicraft Club: Kantha Quilt Workshop!
Now, we have an announcement for a wonderful workshop from Hisae-chan, the manager of the Handicraft Club!
Do you know what a “Kantha Quilt” is?
Kantha Quilt is a traditional craft passed down from ancient times in the Bengal region of India. It refers to cloth made by layering several pieces of old fabric, such as worn-out saris, and applying running stitches (embroidery) by hand, stitch by stitch.
It is a symbol of “upcycling,” where fabric is cherished and reused. It is also a traditional craft filled with family love, often given by mothers to their daughters as part of a bridal dowry. Its charm lies in being a one-of-a-kind item and the warmth of handiwork.
We will be making a “Mini Pouch”
We will make a mini pouch using these Kantha Quilt scraps. We will have various sizes of Kantha Quilt available, so please choose your favorite fabric and finish it into your favorite pouch shape!
There is no correct answer. Let’s finish it however you like! I will bring samples, so don’t worry if you can’t think of any ideas.
The start of handiwork for the New Year. I hope to have a fun time with everyone! We look forward to your participation.
